Annual Peace Road event commenced once again in Auckland on the 1st of August 2015 under the theme “One World, One Road.” The idea of a “Peace Road” or an international highway that physically connects all people of the world together, was the enduring vision of the founder of the Family Federation and Universal Peace Federation, the late Rev. Sun Myung Moon. In 1981 at an international science conference in Seoul he suggested the construction of a highway between Korea and Japan, two former enemy nations, and from 2005 onwards he began to advocate a more ambitious project: the building of the “Peace Tunnel” to cross the Bering Strait.
In the Spirit of Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s vision to unite the world, Peace Road events are taking place in 120 countries. From as far as the South African Cape of Good Hope to Santiago in Chile, participants ride to show support for the Unification of Korea and lasting Global Peace.
In Auckland, We held two routes, one for walking and the other for cycling. The road stretched from Parnell to Mission Bay; whereas the walking route ended at Orakei, the cycling route went all the way to Achilles Point. We started at 9am from 24 St Stephens Avenue, Parnell and the event ended at 1pm.
Thanks to the participation of everyone involved, the event was completed successfully. We hope that our little effort in Auckland, New Zealand will contribute to the global effort in connecting the world together for lasting peace and harmony.
